ABOUT ME

 Born and raised in Miami, Florida, I’m as colorful and vibrant as the city that has been the backdrop to my life. I can’t remember a time that reading and writing wasn’t a part of my existence. I’ve always had a knack for telling stories and have loved writing since I learned to pick up a pencil. I am a mother of two awesome kids, married to my high school sweetheart, and an educator for the best district in the nation.

People ask me all the time how I come up with my ideas and the easy answer is, I listen and observe. I enjoy being creative and take what people tell me to create stories and characters that are relatable. My characters become a part of me. I can hear their conversations and can envision how they react to certain scenarios. I especially enjoy writing about women of color. Our sensuality, intimacy, and tenacious spirit fascinates me. Our experience in a society that systematically tries to knock off our crown is what I want to capture. When you pick up a Blackwyne novel, you will meet characters that remind you of your friends, your sisters, and maybe even yourself.

My goal in life is to empower women to reach their highest potential, and to teach that no matter how stained, tarnished, or dented your crown is, you are still a queen!
